As the field broke it was left to Prince Lionel to make the early running ahead of First Flier, General Villa, Bachelor's Gift and Double Scotch settling in the rear. After half a mile First Flier and Double Scotch took closer order and, within a furlong, Prince Lionel was beaten. The favourite and Double Scotch started to stride clear of General Villa, with First Flier leading into the straight. Approaching the final two furlongs Double Scotch strode passed First Flier and won as he pleased by 4 lengths, with fully 12 lengths back to General Villa. |
